Spello is set at the foot of the Mount Subasio, it has the largest number of remains dating back to Roman times, which are: the city walls, which became the foundation for the medieval ones, the remains of a theater and an amphitheater, and the gorgeous Porta Consolare and Porta Venere from the Augustan period. These are the most important historical – architectural monuments in Spello.
Worth to remember is the Baglioni Chapel painted by Pinturicchio and containing some frescoes by Perugino.
Finally it is important to mention Spello’s gastronomic products, among these the olive oil is the most important.
Regarding events organized in the city one can’t go on without mentioning the “Infiorata”, a flower festival which takes place every year on the occasion of Corpus Christi (the ninth Sunday after Easter).
On that day the town streets are covered with flower arrangements realized by the citizens and collected from the surrounding hills. These works of art are real paintings along the streets of the center and are made to honor the passage of the Body of Christ.
